How do I take pre-orders before I buy from the factory?
Work out what each piece will cost you landed in Ghana, add your profit, show customers that price, and open a batch for orders. When enough customers have ordered, close the batch, pay the factory, and ship. Customers pay before you buy, so you are not holding stock you cannot sell.
The steps
- Pick the products and get the factory's price for each. Ask what the smallest order is.
- Work out your landed cost: the factory price, shipping to Ghana, and any charges on the way. Add your profit to get your selling price.
- Open a pre-order batch and show each product with its price and when the goods are expected.
- Share the batch link with your customers and take orders while it is open.
- When the batch closes, you can see who ordered what. Pay the factory for exactly that.
- Keep customers told while the goods travel, then arrange delivery or pickup when they land.
Why pre-orders protect you
When customers order before you buy, you buy what is already sold. You are not left with stock that will not move, and you are not waiting for money to start the next batch.
Be honest about timing. Sea freight is cheaper and slower, air freight is quicker and costs more. Tell customers which one their order is on.
Giving a better price for bigger orders
If you sell wholesale, you can give one wholesale price that applies from the smallest order you set. Customers see the price drop before they order, and you see your profit on every piece as you set the price. On Sellyard this is part of the Wholesaler plan.
